Algorithm

Has Facebook’s algorithm changed again? Staying relevant in 2020

Wait, did Facebook change it’s algorithm again?

Staying relevant in 2020 – Once again, Facebook has recently changed its algorithm. If you’re posting to social media, like Facebook, to help boost your social media marketing, then it’s essential to understand how these changes will affect what you post and how viewers see your stuff. First off, the way Facebook’s algorithm works is that it decides which posts users see each time they check their news feeds, and in what order. The goal of Facebook for 2020 was to make the site more accessible to its users, to make it more open, and allow users to have more control over what they see.

Staying relevant in 2020

How does this new 2020 algorithm affect you and your practice? First off, the updated algorithm takes many factors into account before choosing what to display to users. For starters, if you religiously use Facebook as a way to market your practice digitally, then there are a few key factors that will help you understand the algorithm a little bit better.

Key Factors:

  • Increase engagement by asking questions or posting exciting facts on your page. Facebook loves it when posts get more interaction from people, like comments or likes. If your job is engaging your audience, then it will most likely appear at the top of peoples page.

  • Try posting a video longer than three minutes on your Facebook page as well as utilizing the Facebook live feature.

A recent article from, Hootsie, stated, “As of. 2020, Facebook has stated that its focus is on helping users understand the algorithm, and take control of those ranking signals to give it better feedback.”

Staying relevant in 2020

Facebook has cited three big ranking signal categories for how content shows up on a user’s feed:

1. which user most often gets the most interaction, in a way, Facebook’s algorithm is much like a popularity contest. If your posts get the most attention, then it will be added to the top of someone’s feed.

2. What type of media is in the post? Are you adding links, videos, or photos?

3. As mentioned previously, how much attention you receive on a post will help your posts rank on the algorithm. Make sure you post often and regularly

Staying relevant in 2020

Before Facebook starts putting your posted content onto people’s feed, it determines all the variables first. So yes, long gone are the days of merely posting and being seen. Today, there is much more work that goes into posting content, especially for practices that are just starting or who are converting to social media as a marketing tool. The main take away from this is to keep your audience engaged. Even though you make a post at noon on Tuesday doesn’t mean everyone who follows you will see that noon posting unless you have a history of popular content.
